About

The Andalusian Journal is devoted to proliferating Middle Eastern cultural diplomacy. I am a journalist based in NYC who has lived both in the Levant and the Gulf, with familial ties to Syria and Lebanon. My name-Marisa Mazria Katz-is in effect the cross-cultural combination I am seeking to enhance between the West and the Middle East–Mazria comes from the Arabic word Misr (or Egypt) and Katz is German. Together we can explore all the ways we can boast understanding and increase diplomatic ties through art and culture. To see more of my work please visit: www.marisakatz.com

  1. the biggest concern with Al Jezira is the one sided reporting and spin coming of El Jazira. it is blatantly one sided reporting,

The number of viewers you mention are mostly middle eastern ex path who get their news from al Jezira. I had an opportunity to watch Al Jezira in LA (Its available on the dish net work) during the last war between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza strip, the station kept repeating awful pictures and footage of dead and wounded all day and night long for days at a time, It was a perfect example of a net work which has only one goal, to promote the interest of the Arabic countries in the middle east with disregard to the truth. nothing was mentioned about the 700 Kasam rocket raining on Israel for 6 month prior to the war.

More people get their news from TV which is very shallow by nature, the audience can and are easily influenced , we know how easy it is for TV broadcast show ten demonstrators which can be made to look like thousands. No wonder members of the media in the US do not want get involves with this type programming.

Being a french living in the middle east, during the last war between Israel and the palestinians from Gaza I watched the news on 5 different channels: France 24, CNN, BBCWorld, Euronews and al Jezira (as i regularly do on any subject). Of course each channel had its own approach of the news. But what I seek in checking these various canels of information is to make my own opinion. For that reason to have the widest access to all information is very very important! And these different approaches give you a better perspective of the conflict.
